Train Tracks

Train Tracks Puzzles for Kids and Classrooms

Updated October 3, 2026 · 3 min read

Train Tracks is an easy logic puzzle to teach. The rules fit in a sentence and every move can be explained.

Why it suits learners

The goal is clear and visual: join two points with one track. Rules are checkable by eye, and an Easy 5×5 board takes only a few minutes. It runs in a browser, free, with no account.

Teaching it in three steps

Start with the idea, then the numbers, then the deductions.

  • Show an Easy board and trace the route from entrance to exit by hand.
  • Explain that each number counts the squares with track in that line.
  • Introduce zeros and full lines, then let them try the first moves themselves.

Skills it practises

Counting, spatial reasoning, working from constraints and checking your own work. Asking a learner why a square must be track, rather than whether it is, builds clear reasoning habits.

Classroom ideas

Everyone can solve the same Daily board and compare times. Or share a challenge link from the win screen so a pair can race on an identical board.
